Museum of the city of Skopje is founded in 1949. From 1970, the Museum is located in adapted part of old depot, which partly was destroyed in earthquake in 1963. One third from the building, today is adapted for Museum with space of 4.500 m2, from that 2.000 m2 is exhibition space. Since to date, as complex museum connects archeology, history, ethnology and art history in region of the city Skopje. Beside, systematic researches, collection, systematization, storage and conservation, the museum makes expert elaboration and scientific research of museum material, also presents it through thematic projects and exhibitions in the country and abroad. Museum possess fund of 21.950 museum objects disposed on four sections: archeology, history, ethnology and art history. In museum fund is, also, donation of 182 photography from doyen of Macedonian art photography, Blagoja Drnkov and donation of Japanese graphic Ukiyoe. In 1991, Ljubomir Belogaski donated 159 acts, mostly aquarelles, to Museum of the city of Skopje. This collection, with exceptional value and first of its kind in the country, establish permanent gallery in Museum, named as donator Ljubomir Belogaski, to testify as remembrance of the great doyen. “Walk through the past” is permanent exhibition in museum and covers the from prehistory period to beginning of XX century of Skopje and its region. In 1994, was opened “Open graphic studio – MAK-GRAF”, with international character, it is a space where artists, designers and audience can communicate and expose their arts.
